Project Overview & Brief
Own the Algorithm (OTA) is an initiative by Innovators for Purpose that equips communities with the knowledge and tools to fully understand the AI systems so many of us engage with on a day to day basis. The project stems from our AI awareness campaign, Transforming AI, where we aim to shed light on the biases that are imbedded in AI tools. I lead the branding and visual identity, hosted Generative AI workshops at our annual Transforming AI summits (2024 + 2025), as well as lead the research development for a future AI literacy app.
Our goal: take people’s understanding of AI (AI literacy) and turn it into something useful that gives them real influence in society (civic power).
Process + Approach
1. Branding & Visual Identity
I designed the logo and visuals for both the parent project, Transforming AI, and the OTA initiative, to give the projects strong, empowering identities. I created multiple iterations early on in the Transforming AI branding process, with placeholder name "Gen AI." I have also created graphic assets for campaigns, workshops, and digital use. Ensuring design consistency across print, digital, and social platforms for both initiatives is a priority.
2. Research & App Development
I led early research for a future AI literacy app aimed at helping young people question and shape algorithms, as well as guided students through structured research development and feedback loops to refine key research.
3. Workshop Design + Facilitation
I designed and facilitated two Generative AI + Creativity workshops at the annual Transforming AI Summit (2024 & 2025), engaging over 150 youth. The workshops explored how generative AI can be used as a creative tool while also prompting participants to reflect on the meaning of creativity and to critically examine issues of bias.

Impact
- Established a recognizable identity for both initiatives, ensuring each project has a unique identity.
- Helped set the foundation for an AI literacy app that will extend the project’s impact in schools and community spaces.
